From One Busy Mom to Another: Why Ditching the Wine Was the Best Mother’s Day Gift I Ever Gave Myself
Let me guess—you have a never-ending to-do list including “clean out the junk drawer,” “respond to that email I've been avoiding,” and “track down that missing water bottle that mysteriously vanished into the black hole in my battleship of a car.” (Just me?)
Well, same here. This blog post has been on my list forever, but if there’s one universal truth we moms know, it’s that the list never ends—it just regenerates like laundry.
But today, on Mother’s Day, I’m finally checking it off. Because what better day to speak directly to you—fellow mom, multitasker, household CEO, crisis manager, and (sometimes) wine-sipper just trying to make it through the bedtime routine alive?
Let’s Talk About the “Mommy Needs Wine” Culture
Once upon a time, I truly believed that wine was the duct tape holding my life together. Between kids’ schedules, work stress, never-ending laundry, and the invisible mental load of motherhood, that nightly pour felt like a lifeline. A signal that I had “made it” through another day.
If you’d told me then that one day I’d feel happier, more connected, and way less stressed without alcohol (and with more kids added to the mix), I would have laughed... and maybe poured you a glass too.
But here’s the truth: redefining my relationship with alcohol was the most powerful, freeing, joy-boosting thing I’ve ever done. And I did it for me—but wow, did my family benefit too.
The Myth of “Wine Helps Me Cope”
This isn’t a lecture. This isn’t about shame. I’ve been there. I get it. The wine felt like the only thing giving me a moment of calm. But here’s a fun-ish fact: alcohol is a depressant, which means your body has to work overtime to bring you back into balance after you drink it. Enter: cortisol, aka the stress hormone. Yep, the thing we’re drinking to escape is actually creating more anxiety in the long run.
Chronic stress, fueled by that invisible cortisol rollercoaster, can wreak havoc on your body, your sleep, your skin, your patience... and your ability to enjoy the little moments that actually make motherhood meaningful.
So no, this isn’t about judgment—it’s about information, empowerment, and giving you tools to make choices that feel aligned with the life you want. Because the truth is: you don’t need anything outside of yourself to handle the hard stuff. You already have everything you need.
What If You Gave Yourself This Gift Today?

If your Mother’s Day haul included some macaroni art and a last-minute text from your partner (classic), maybe it’s time to give yourself something that lasts longer than dried glue and glitter.
🎁 This Mother’s Day, I’m offering two completely free gifts to help you reconnect with yourself:
A free 1:1 strategy call – Let’s talk about what’s working, what’s not, and how to take your first step toward less stress and more joy. No pressure. Just you, me, and a compassionate space to explore new possibilities.
A free self-care series – Created just for busy moms like you. Think bite-sized, doable practices to support your energy, mood, and mindset—no spa day required (though if you can sneak one in, I highly recommend it).
Because you are the exact right person for your kids. And you deserve to feel whole, grounded, and connected—not just on Mother’s Day, but every day.
Ready to See What’s Possible?
You don’t need to do this alone. I'm in your corner, cheering you on, one messy, beautiful moment at a time.
